About the conversion
How does the conversion work?
Your files are processed on a dedicated Windows machine running a licensed copy of Microsoft Publisher. Publisher opens each file natively — the same way you would — and exports PDF and IDML. This produces the most faithful output possible because we use the real application, not a third-party parser.
What outputs do I get?
Each .pub file produces two outputs: a print-ready PDF and an IDML file. IDML is an open format supported by Affinity Publisher 2 and Adobe InDesign.
Is scratch area content preserved?
Yes. Content that lives outside the page boundary in Publisher (on the 'pasteboard' or 'scratch area') is captured and placed on the pasteboard of the output IDML file.
Are fonts embedded in the PDF?
Yes. The PDF is exported by Publisher's built-in PDF engine with fonts embedded.
What about linked images?
Linked images that are available on disk at conversion time are included. Cloud-only or missing linked images will be absent from the output — download your files locally before uploading if you have linked images stored in OneDrive or SharePoint.
Do you support Publisher files from all versions?
We support all .pub files that Publisher 2019/Microsoft 365 can open, which covers Publisher 2003 through current. Very old Publisher 2.0/95 files may not be supported.
Files and security
How are my files stored?
Files are uploaded directly to encrypted cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) using a presigned URL — they never pass through our web servers. Input files are automatically deleted within 24 hours. Output files (PDF + IDML) are deleted 48 hours after your job completes.
Who can access my files?
Only our conversion system accesses your files. We do not inspect, share, or retain the contents of your Publisher documents.
Can I convert password-protected files?
No. Publisher cannot open password-protected files via automation. Remove the password in Publisher before uploading.
What is the maximum file size?
500 MB per file. Files larger than this should be split before uploading.
Payment and refunds
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards via Stripe. We do not store your card details.
What if a file fails to convert?
We issue a partial refund for any file that fails — automatically, before sending your download email. You're only charged for successful conversions.
What if the entire job fails?
You receive a full refund. This is rare — it typically only happens if Publisher itself becomes unavailable on our machine.
How long do refunds take?
Refunds appear within 5–10 business days depending on your card issuer.
Can I get a VAT invoice?
Stripe generates a receipt automatically. For a formal VAT invoice, email us with your order details.
Opening your files in Affinity Publisher
How do I open an IDML file in Affinity Publisher?
File → Open, then select the .idml file. Affinity Publisher will import it directly.
Content outside the page isn't visible — how do I fix that?
Right-click on an empty area of the pasteboard (the grey area surrounding the page), set the pasteboard color to white. Then go to View and disable "Clip to Canvas". Objects on the pasteboard will now be visible.
Fonts look wrong — what do I do?
If Publisher used fonts that aren't installed on your system, Affinity Publisher will substitute them. Install the original fonts for the layout to render correctly.
